The Inside Howl!

Where We Run With The Pack!

What is most worth learning about?

There is a wide variety of answers when students think about what is most worth learning. Many will design their “way of learning” to be fun, for example: no homework, listening to music all day, etc. Some people, like me, will actually think this through and think about what really is important to a student and what education is needed to succeed in life. I think loving yourself, building confidence, and learning about taxes, just basic life skills, are what is most worth learning about.

Loving yourself is something big that students need to learn about in their life. Many students who doubt themselves all the time and say, “I can’t do it,” don’t believe in themselves. Loving yourself is a big way to improve your confidence. Many students need this. As I’ve been told before, many students HATE that they do these things to themselves, they WANT to have confidence in themselves, but it’s just extremely difficult. There’s so many students here with anxiety, depression, are anti-social, and frankly scared to speak in class.  I think if we had a class where everyone is confident and love themselves, more students would have much more faith in themselves. They won’t be nervous to present in front of others, they won’t be scared to answer a question in front of class. Basically, school is all about having confidence and loving yourself. If you have those priorities, then you’ll be able to get through life.

Another class or another thing that is worth learning about is all responsibilities we have as adults. For example, my mother, has things like bills, taxes, and job interviews. She is always complaining that she doesn’t know how to do them; she is constantly struggling. My mother always needs someone to help her but since I have not learned those skills I am unable to help. If we are able to have a class about this, Seniors and future seniors wouldn’t have to go into the “real world,” and not know what to do. They would of already learned about these responsibilities and or “skills.” And, they would be able to get through life and thank themselves for taking the class. So, if we had a class about this, we would not be seeking help as our parents needed and we would able to help them and us in the future.

I know the future is about knowledge, but it is also about having confidence and knowing the responsibilities. So, if we learned about this, I guarantee that the future students will be prepared for whatever gets thrown at them in life. These, are just a couple of ideas to what answers the question, what is most learning about?

What is most worth learning? – Giselle N.

A lot of information accumulates over time in school, but how much of it is actually necessary and valuable? I believe that, of course, the basic mathematical and English skills should be a top priority to learn, but besides that, there are many other things that should be included into our studies that prepare us for the real world.

Have you ever just watched your parents in amazement as they make mortgage payments and file for taxes. You’re just there in confusion about what the heck is going on. Entering high school, we start to officially prepare ourselves to become responsible young adults to, hopefully, be successful in the real world, but how many times have teachers actually guided us on how to apply for a job or how to even write a check. Many times my mother has asked me to fill out a check, which by her inferencing, expects me to know how to fill one out for her to since I go to school. There shouldn’t be separate classes about how to do each individual thing, but there should be an established time to discuss similar matters. By doing this, it will prepare students to be a lot more responsible and ready for the real world. They could actually put these skills to use right away after high school and entering college.

Most high school graduates will go out and apply for a job. Teamwork should also be an active skill that should be practiced by a good majority of students. Teamwork is used in almost every career and it is a necessary job skill. It’ll help you comprehend what it is like to work with others while at the same time getting to know your strengths and weaknesses. I am lucky enough to have presented the opportunity to live in an education environment where you use teamwork everyday. It has helped me build my skills by transforming me into a better leader for when it comes to any situation. I am able to experience different types of roles when it come to group work, so there is a lot of beneficial outcomes for me. Now for when I graduate, I will be able to take those teamwork skills into the real world which will put me in favor when landing a job.

After having a discussion about why reading is a big prioritization in school, I’ve come to realize that it actually is a big part of our learning journey. There are many reasons as to why it is such an important skill to master. Recently, little kids have been given the push to start reading as early as pre-k to get their reading skills rolling. By doing this, it’s going to expand so much knowledge into their brains including the ability to create a picture in their minds using a story. With reading also comes an expansion into their vocabulary which opens new worlds for them. It gives them a greater understanding of the world and using different ways to express themselves. I don’t know them right off the bat, but I know that there are some studies showing that if students excel in reading, it helps with math. Reading is also linked to helping other school subjects, as well.

The upcoming generations of young adolescents are going to be a lot smarter about the world, so we should properly teach them in school the necessary skill for them to be even more successful. If schools focus on teaching kids the importance of reading and guiding them on how to be independent young adults.

Job Shadowing

So many of us as 8th grade did this thing called job shadowing and the point was to job shadow someone you didn’t know and learn and experience a job.

Well I am writing about what they have to do and what have been the best ones that students get to do. I will be also talking about my own experience on job shadowing.

First thing is they get this package of paper and things they need to fill out. The way they do this is their teacher talks about how and what they need to do. After a few day they soon start looking at jobs they could go and see if they could job shadowing. One of the thing they have to do is they need to contact that person and see if they could have them there and if they are okay with being asked about their job. Then they tell them what day it is and if they are available  that day. Well i remember then I had to do this last year. I really wanted to interview a cop because that’s what I wanted to be as I grew up but they said that i couldn’t so I looked for more options and then I thought about this lady that works on the radio and her name was Maga and I asked her if I could job shadow her and she said yes but as it got closer to the day she called me and told me she couldn’t so she gave me a few people i could interview instead and I ended up with Mr. Amargo at Rogers High School. The cool thing is that I learned a lot from him and I also got to talk to the police officer there at the school and he told me that if i wanted to be a cop he would highly recommend that I finish school and get your bachelors in business because he was going back to school for that and so that  when you get tired of working as a cop you could just open a business and I really liked that. Point was that I learned that not always do you have to job shadow something you really want other jobs could surprise you. That’s what I learned from job shadowing. I also got to get on their broadcast and they interviewed me and asked me questions about job shadowing. My sister is doing this right now and she wants to job shadow someone who does hair but she might have to choose something else. The reason is because she is very shy and scared to ask things but I am always there for her but this time its going to just be her and she might be job shadowing someone else but we cant always have what we want.

What To Make Your Mom For Mother’s Day

379bcc151012cfca06ee4e146ae11f1c(1)Have you ever woken up on May 8th and thought that you were forgetting something? Well you were. It’s Mother’s Day! To show your mom that you really care, here are four mothers day gift you can do for Mother’s Day. Number One: If your mom loves flowers, here is the perfect gift. A daisy painted mason jar. All you need is a mason jar, your mom’s favorite color of paint, white and yellow paint for the flowers  (you can pick different colors to match your mom’s style), and some flower( fake or real.) First you need a mason jar. Paint your jar with your first paint color a.k.a. Your mom’s favorite color. Make sure the entire jar is covered and that the paint is opaque. Let that dry overnight to prepare for the next step. Next use a small piece of sandpaper to scratch off some of the paint. Only scratch off the paint on the logo on the jar. Leave the other paint there. Next, paint on your flowers. You can paint other flowers if you know how, but daisies and the easiest to paint. Once it is all dry, place your flowers in and present it to your mom.

The next gift you can make for your mom is a flower initial. You will need cardboard, aMothers day(1) sharpie, scissors, a hot glue gun, and fake flowers. First you need to draw/ trace the letter on the cardboard. Make sure it is nice and neat. Then cut it out. The last step is to glue on the flowers. You can choose any flower you want as long and they are small enough to fit on the letter. And there you have it. A flower initial that will light up your mom’s day.

DIY number three is on the easier side. This project is perfect for younger kids but can work for older kids as well. Make this “I love you This Much” ha185f3045ecca1a6e75be61a58a2be92(1)and card and show how much you love your mom. You will need paper, scissors, and a marker. Start off by have the child or you trace their/ your hand. Trace it on some colorful paper to make it pop. Trace both hands to make the card.  Also cut out a 1” by 6” rectangle to connect the hands together. Fold the rectangle up into an accordion and glue or tape the ends to each hand. Write “I love you” on the front of the card and “This Much” on the rectangle on the inside. This is a perfect gift for any mom to let her know you love her.

ff002b2a58078a546946a72bd3631a3d(1)The last Mother’s DIY I have is the Baby Flower. You will need construction paper, glue stick, a popsicle stick, and a picture of you/ mother’s child. Make a flower shape out of bright colored construction paper and cut out the center. Cut out the picture and glue it to the back of the flower making sure the face is in the center of the cut out. Color the popsicle stick green to look like a stem. Cut out a leaf from green construction paper and write a message to you mom on it. Glue the leaf and flower the to popsicle stick and you are done.

Doing any of these DIY’s will make you mom feel special and love and show her how much you love and care for her.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is in the air which means it’s time for the annual spring cleaning. Some people always put the work to the end and never get around to it, but don’t you want people coming over and looking at your nice clean house? Let’s stop procrastinating and if you’re worried about not being able to get out those tough stains that just won’t go away well I have the solution because I know a few diy spring cleaning ideas that will help. These recipes are all natural and that leave your surfaces clean. The recipe that I found the most useful and effective is called the glass cleaner. The recipe calls for two cups of water, two tablespoons of white vinegar, two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, and five drops of peppermint essential oil. After you have gotten all the ingredients combine them together in a 24 ounce spray bottle and shake it very well so that they are all mixed very well. Once you have combined your ingredients spray it on a cloth and apply to the surface. This recipe is proven to be very effective to clean your surfaces during your spring cleaning season. I know what you’re thinking why should i care about having to do spring cleaning well you should care. If you don’t clean your house it could cause your house to be messy and cause believe it or not bacteria. So if you decide to actually do spring cleaning use the glass cleaning method.

Elizabeth Lee Miller

Elizabeth Lee Miller is a was an American Photographer. Unfortunately, she still is not alive anymore, she died back in July 21, 1977, she died due to cancer at the age of 70. She was cremated and her ashes were spread through her herb garden. But before she died, at a young age, her and her brother was introduced to photography. She was his father’s modeled. But she usually modeled nude, which she was embarrassed after getting gonorrhea after being raped by a family friend. But, that didn’t stop her from being a very famous fashion model and photographer.  At age 19 she nearly stepped in front of a car on a Manhattan street but was prevented by Condé Nast, the publisher of Vogue. This incident helped launch her modeling career; she appeared in an illustration by George Lepape on the cover of the Vogue edition of March 15, 1927. After that, she become one of the most successful models in New York City, in the 1920’s. But after that, she moved to paris, where she became a fashion and fine art photographer. She wasn’t really noticed from her work, it was after she died she became noticed. She mostly photographed pictures from World War II. But, she was famous for her picture in Hitler’s bathtub.  Apparently, it had a lot more meaning than just the fact that she was in Hitler’s bathtub.

She was published in many places like, Vogue, Glim Glory, etc. It didn’t say, or I didn’t find, what type of education that she had.  She’s been to many places like, New York, Paris, Manhattan, London, and Munich. But, I hope more people don’t just know her as “The Girl in Hitler’s Bathtub,” but as a women who’d like to take risks for her career. A women, who went through a lot and was able to face her obstacles. This was Elizabeth Lee Miller.
