Woodie’s Wagon Food Truck

IMG_20160219_095923Flaps Down, a local restaurant in Springdale, is owned by the Adam’s family. They are branching out to the popular mobile food market, and needed some help for the design of their food truck. The new truck, Woodie’s Wagon: Small Place, Big Taste, will be in featured in several locations in the coming weeks, but first for the make-over.

Since the real world task created a problem that was right in line with the project based learning offered at Rogers’ New Tech, Mrs. Maria Akehurst’s Intermediate Graphic Design class came to the rescue. A group of student took the challenge seriously and created this eye catching design.

Angeles A., Emily L., and Alejandra T. took a week to complete the design. The competition was class-wide with approximately 25 students competing in groups. The girls didn’t even know they won until the big reveal during class today. What an exciting day at Rogers New Tech! IMG_20160219_100203IMG_20160219_095813

Criminal Report:

by: Taylor Voight, Ariel Gonzalez, Chris Lemus, Sammy Miranda.

On the morning of December 3rd, 2015 a crime took place in the beloved classroom of Mr. Daniels. Four bodies were found dead and are being released to the families today. When briefed by the state of police we were told that the victims were allegedly killed by a head forced trauma, however each body was found carrying packets of soy sauce and other products from local restaurant Panda Express. How peculiar! The suspect, Gracie Fuston, was questioned at the scene early on that day and we,the reporters, talked with the main investigators on the case. After asking the reason Gracie was questioned nearly immediately at the scene Detective Voight, the lead on the case replied with,

“When we walked into the crime scene I almost immediately noticed her strange behavior, So naturally we went to interview her.” Fair enough Detective, however we wondered just when they realized she was in possession of the murder weapon?

“Well at first it wasn’t noticed, the school provides laptops for all their students, so it wasn’t until our autopsy members examined the body and determined the cause of death was a head forced trauma, that was when we realized the dented laptop, she clutched tightly, was potential evidence… and with the confirmation of DNA recognition we found that it was in fact the murder weapon used!” This is all compelling evidence but who could this murderer possibly be? According to the detective:

“When confronted about the murder weapon and other evidence Gracie did what I wish ALL suspects would do, she confessed!” An actual confession… but it couldn’t have possibly been that easy? Perhaps not everyone can take the heat of our school police force, but what about the Panda Express packets… what did those have to do with anything? We asked Investigator Lemus for enlightening information:

“The day of Crime was a day all members with trust cards were given the chance of go off campus to each lunch, the four victims happened to go to Panda Express that day.” Okay that clears us up a bit, but just why would Gracie murder all these innocent students?

“Well with evidence and further questioning we came to the conclusion that her motive was out of jealousy, the victims did not invite her to go to Panda Express with them, so when they returned, Gracie took her anger out and murdered them using a laptop.” So there you have it, the tragic crime that left 4 innocent students dead and one not-so-innocent student behind bars. Gracie trial was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon but after close analysis it was moved to yesterday after school. She was quickly charged with Voluntary manslaughter and theft. She can face up to 11 years in prison, 6 with good behavior and community service. Is Rogers New Technology High School REALLY safe? Rumor has it this isn’t the only crime of the week. A record breaking 9 criminal acts were committed that week alone. The Journalism kids are always up for the job! However all this has come into questioning… Are we really safe? What’s this sudden burst of bad behavior? How can we stop this? And most of all is the cafeteria lunch meat…. really meat? Thanks for reading this week’s daily update featuring anything and everything here at New Tech!

Post-Apocalyptic Humanity 2.0: Our American Journeys- Lew.& Sisson

By Alex & Ericka

Humanity 2.0 is the freshman project where they read ideas of many philosophers and write and essay about which they agree with and which they disagree with. It is set in the future(post apocalyptic).

20151021_112402 They are reading  One Summer, America 1927 by Bill Bryson to get ideas for philosophers to make their arguments. Every once in awhile, Mr. Lew will point out important vocabulary and tell the kids what the word means and how they can use it in their everyday life. They have a wall of questions where they write down something they are curious about and have the students help them understand it. They also have a wall of unknown words that they have found in their reading and by the end of the project, they will have all of them defined.

According to the students, the philosophers they are studying were Theodore Roosevelt, Upton Sinclair, Ida Tarbell, Eugene V. Debs, Grover Cleveland, Susan B. Anthony, Wayne Wheeler, Clarence Darrow, Drew Keeling, Henry Cabot Lodge, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Du Bois, Melville Fuller, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, René Descartes, Niccolo Machiavelli.

They will either be accepting or rejecting the ideas of these philosophers and analyze the reason that Humanity 1.0 failed to shape the way Humanity 2.0 will look.

This year, they are in groups of three. They share their ideas and thoughts about the philosophers they agree and disagree with. There is also more history in this year’s project than last years. They are focusing on the progressive era and how the role of the government 20151021_112409changed that era.

This project is also very vocab heavy and reading and writing focus. They will read many articles about the philosophers and what they taught and believed. Their project is different from the other class because theirs is set in the future after the apocalypse happened. They are trying to rebuild Humanity and set rules for it. Many people agree with Locke and Hobbes(two philosophers), and many disagree with Rousseau. Their final product will be an essay in which they argue and debate their beliefs.

That is an update our the projects going on in our school. we can see by the work that they have done that they are working very hard. Not everyone is doing the same thing, but we are all working together to do the best work we can.
