Most people went over to their relatives house or stayed at home and celebrated Christmas or celebrated their New year’s.
After interviewing several students during lunch, we discovered that ,many kids received nice presents and enjoyed their Christmas. Most presents of which were nice, were PS4’s, hairs straighteners, and someone got a piano. One of them even received a pocket knife. The students also enjoyed a variety of food during the break. Some ate tamales, pizza, sausage, and some even drank wine. Also, many students managed to stay up very late on Christmas Eve. Some even going through the whole day without closing their eyes. Overall the people of New Tech had a blast during Christmas break.

Ballon D’or

On January 11th, one of the biggest award ceremonies for any soccer fan took place at Zurich, Switzerland. Of course, such a grand ceremony would not be so famous if it wasn’t for the Ballon D’Or (golden ball) award. The winner is determined by votes on the player that had the best performance in the last year. This year’s winner turned out to be Lionel Messi. With this topic trending on all social media, we decided to interview some students at New Tech to see their reaction and thoughts.Messi Ballon D'or
After interviewing several students at New Tech, we were able to figure out soccer fans’ thought on the Ballon D’or ceremony. There were some that thought Messi deserved the award but others though that other nominees should have received. The other two nominees were Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar da Silva. Students thought that other people deserved to be nominated due to their performance last season. Some players they wanted were Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero, Luis Suárez, and more. With a lot of students thoughts on this topic, we believe there are is a lot of variety in people’s favorite soccer players.

How to Start a Youtube Channel

The quickest way to get to work on production is to start a YouTube channel. YouTube is an online video browser where millions of people publish videos, gaming, music, art, or just updates on what’s up in the world or their life, etc. Everyone can do it it’s free. Most people don’t see that to actually do it is somewhat confusing.

#1 Do your research

Yay! You have started step one. Millions of people talk about how to do things. Starting a YouTube channel is somewhat confusing so doing research is necessary.

#2 Who are you?

You need a name and keywords. What does your channel represent? Are you a Speed Artist, a Poketuber, and CoD player? Everyone likes certain things, you need to know what you will be doing and what you will be called. Try to make it catchy and represent what you will be doing.

#3 Ummm… whats a video?

What are you going to be using to record? What are you going to use to edit? There are many free recording systems and editing systems, but you will probably need to invest at some point. It all depends on how serious you are. For myself I have spent say 50$ on supplies, I have earned it all back within two months. Good equipment completely changes what you can do.

#4 Organization!

Everyone loves charts, and calendars right? Well I didn’t until I started YouTube. Sooner or later you will have fans you need to look professional. A chart saying you will be doing this on that day will help drastically. YouTube can be your job and it requires days of work.

#5 Social Media

I’m not very social but, I have every kind of account you can think of. I use twitter preferably to talk to my audience. Getting a social media account really helps! Don’t spam people, but get to know people and work with them. Social media is where your audience can truly help you.

#6 Keep going

You are almost there! You have one-hundred subs, and post videos three times a week, You’re starting to get involved in social media and you are on a steady road to success. Keep working you are doing great! never miss a day, and love your audience because they are what makes you succeed.
If you don’t actually know how to sign up for YouTube and do all the paper and email work watch this video!

Roger New Tech…New Technology!

By: Taylor Voight and Eve Gower

Well they certainly don’t call us a Technology school for nothing, It seems our Smart Machinery only IMG_2170grows as the months go on. In 2nd quarter the school was given our very own 3D printer, making our school even better! Before we begin we would like to thank Mrs. Akehurst for taking the time to sit down with us personally for an interview. Alright for all you un-tech-savvy readers, a 3D printer is a printer that prints objects in a three-dimensional space, by using the X and Y axis. Wait! Don’t leave us now, we promise it’s not a math lecture! The 3D printer has the capability to print actual solid objects. No we promise this is a real thing! What a time to be alive. Now these things can get very expensive at a high 6,000 dollars. Fortunately we got ours for 3,500 dollars, still more than I currently own. But how in the world did we even afford this? Well technically we didn’t pay for it, Mrs. Akehurst applied for a CTE start up grant to teach graphic design which gave all possible funds. We were also given additional funds! So what about the printer itself? What is the material that is printed out? The 3D printer prints out a plastic filament in whatever shape you desire to print out. We asked Mrs. Akehurst how this would in fact benefit our school and she replied: IMG_2167

“ I think it will benefit the school in terms of giving kids more possibilities, more possibilities to realize what there is on the computer that they can actually print in 3D form. The idea of manufacturing and how things actually get built, thinking more perceptually so it’s not just a 2D plane…” she also goes on to list more possibilities that each effect our work greatly! So if you haven’t seen our new printer, drop by Mrs. Akehurst room 224 and don’t be afraid to ask questions about it… just resist the urge to touch!IMG_2173

Michael Weatherly leaving NCIS!

by: Taylor Voight

Yes you read the title right, it’s actually happening. After 13 successful years Michael Weatherly confirmed his departure to NCIS two weeks ago via twitter. In his tweet he stated: “[Tony] DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him.”

CBS later confirmed his statement saying “a valued part of the CBS family,” and that “the immense charm and talent he brings to the screen as ‘Very’ Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has helped make NCIS what it is today — the No. 1 drama in the world.” Now if you’re anything like me, you’re already crying through this article!

Michael also posted a pictures of himself and on-screen co-star Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby Sciuto the forensic scientist of the team, thanking CBS and it’s chief executive, Les Moonves for “the opportunity of a lifetime!”Screen Shot 2016-01-19 at 9.49.44 PM

All of this however has left fans questioning, just how the beloved Tony Dinozzo will be written of the show at the end of the season, because no fans want to see him die! If he dies I will legit cry.  Many fans are desperately hoping (Like myself) the other half of Tiva (Tony and Ziva) will reunite and will ride off in the sunset.

But will Tony and Ziva ride off into the sunset together? Sadly, when asked if there are plans for Cote de Pablo to return to the CBS drama, Geller said, “not currently.” Now we may never know what could have been between the two soulmates unfortunately. However some fans have not given up hope, Ziva is still out there and alive! It is yet to know how Weatherly will leave even to the producers who are still preparing his departure.
Michael’s character will be missed by many and there are no plans to immediately replace him, because those are some big shoes to fill. Weatherly has been there since the beginning of the TV series and will be leaving at the season 13 finale.

Has Technology Taken Over Our Lives?

image2Did technology really improve our lives? Or was it invented for the worse? Every new invention has it’s pros and cons, but the one that is most talked about is technology. Many people have diverse opinions or thoughts of how technology has affected us. We’ve decided to ask some peers and adults about their opinions of technology.

First, we decided to ask some of our peers at the New Technology High School. The first person that we asked was Madison Brooks. Madison had said, “Technology has affected us in both ways, for the better and for the worse. I think it is very helpful in many ways but it is a huge distraction to some people and causes a lot of problems.” Because of the distraction of cellphones of class, many teachers and school have permanently taken away phone use in schools. Many schools think if they took away cell phone privileges, the students will have a better learning environment and be able to pay attention and have better grades in classes and tests. The teachers won’t have to worry about students using their phones when they are not supposed to unlike schools who do allow cell phones. Another student that we asked was Aileen Juarez, she said; “I think it affected us for the better in a way. We learned to be independent and have the taste of being trusted by the teachers and being responsible for ourselves.” The reasons

that teachers and schools let us our phones is because in the real world, we need the ability to know when to use or not to use. So, they are giving us the trust to use our phones like in the real world, hoping we would understand that they trust us and would use it for important uses.

Second, we decided to ask some parents to see how their diverse their opinions and perspective are.  I first decided to ask Judith, a mother of one, said; “Is 50/50:  It’s much easier to find information quickly now, we all have the internet at our fingertips. With things like sat nav, it makes driving easier, plus as technology improves things become safer. It makes the world smaller so speaking with people far away is easier and cheaper. Now, how we utilize and perceive technology, that is up to us. If anything bad comes out of all this technology, it’s because of our attitude. If we want to avoid many of the bad things about technology, we have to be smarter. We have to change our mentality — we have to discipline ourselves to not obsess over things like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. — we have to use things in moderation, go outside, get fresh air, exercise — we have to learn to manage our time on such utilities, because otherwise, yes, things become worse.”  In this answer given, we are see technology in an adult’s persevered. When technology is a good thing due it bringing people together from all around the world and helping us by giving us the power to search things within our fingertips. Though it provides us many advantages, there are some stuff that could cause a down hill. The downhill is how we don’t know when to limit ourselves and let technology rule over our life.

Technology been proven as an amazing tool and invention for personal use and for work, though the saying of  “every good invention have it’s flaw” applies to it. Peers of new tech and adults seem to understand that concept though, which is a wonderful thing. But why do we still have problems of obsessiveness and slacking with technology? How do we stop it? The answer to that is that only the person who is in control can stop it. So make your choice, show that technology isn’t as bad as it seem by stopping with all the unnecessary media.

Is A School Library A Good Investment?

image1 image3New Technology High School. Yeah, sure, it is mostly made up of technology, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy the company of books. Technology is taking over and it is changing the way we learn. It has its pro’s and con’s, but books are the best way to learn. Learners spend too much time on their devices and sometimes it can distract them from what they are really supposed to do. Our very own facilitator, Veronica Thiele, a Journalism and English facilitator, has decided to open up a petition for a school library. It has been proven that when reading off a book, learners are capable of learning more. Learners should have the ability to enjoy the world of reading. But we decided to ask some students about their opinions about opening a new school library.

The first person that we interviewed is Aileen Juarez, she started; “I feel like it’s good and bad, Good because I honestly am so use to reading books and love reading in ‘old’ fashion way. Bad because we’ll be wasting money. The school had been open for a few years and don’t even have its own team in sports or have its own proms and stuff, so we’re basically making it demand of money to make students and teachers happy. When the thing is, we may not have that money to begin with to do everything.” The second person we decided to ask is Madison Brooks, “No because not many people read books anymore because we have too much school work. People don’t return books like they should and we have computers so we can just read books off of there.” Many people have diverse opinions, even being in the same age group. Some people believe that we should just stick to technology and others believe that we should keep it old fashion. Maybe the school should invest in a small library and those who want to read books can visit when they can. Not many people like to read and it’s partly because books are starting to go away. There are many statistics that reveal that learners can score higher on the ACT. Learners in school library programs and extended library hours scored up to 8.4% to 21.8% higher on ACT English tests and 11.7% to 16.7% higher on ACT Reading tests.

We should focus on what’s important and invest in a school library. We can have higher test scores. Old fashion way is always the good way.

New Year’s Resolutions

By Ericka R.

When New Year’s comes around, the natural thing to do is make a New Year’s Resolution. This year, we have gone around asking as many people as we could find, what their New Year’s Resolution was. Everyone’s was special in their own way, but there were some that were just so outstanding that they make you wonder why you didn’t do that.

One of the most outstanding ones was by Mrs. Casey Bazyk, facilitator of tenth grade english. She had said only a simple word, “Authenticity”, and it really makes you wonder what she must have been thinking about when she thought of that. She explained that most all New Year’s Resolutions were broken and weren’t of that much importance in a way. She said she hadn’t wanted to make it something that would be meaningless later on. By authenticity she meant she wanted to live authentically, to have and authentic life. And for those of you who don’t really know what authentic means, because really who actually knows everything, it means to be “real or genuine : not copied or false”, as stated by Merriam-Webster.

Another of our most outstanding resolutions was made by Freshman student America Cervantes. She had mentioned she doesn’t “want to get attached to fictional characters”, and honestly who doesn’t these days, whether it’s a TV show or simply a book.  Everyone has a soft spot for those fictional characters that surrounds us, and if you don’t, it’s probably better that way. For anyone who gets too attached, we know it’s a painful process, especially if it all just ends. I am sure most everyone can relate to America, and if you can’t, then your life has one less problem than ours.

Of course all were special in their own way like Mr. Daniel Burdess with his one word, inspired by Mrs. Bazyk, “Dire Wolf”, standing for mystery. Or an Anonymous’ “To hate school less”, which, by the way, was broken the first day back. And there was of course others who simply said they didn’t make one.
